DIFFERENTIATION

Filed under: News, Personal — sngk @ 2:26 am

So I’ve had a Tumblr for a while, but it’s been somewhat idle (OK, completely idle) until recently.  I wasn’t really sure what to do with it, soI’ll be posting some of the random stuff I find on the interwebs over at sngk findings for now. Don’t worry, this blog will remain active too.

GOTHAM’S GLORY DAYS

Filed under: New York, Thoughts — Tags: — sngk @ 3:39 pm

Have they passed? With the current economic mess drawing the nation’s ire at Wall Street, and NYC facing a multitude of budgeting problems, I feel that New York City has lost some of it’s luster. Perhaps this feeling is an effect of having been in this area too long (and reading too much about the deathlike spiral of the publishing and media industry based in NYC), but I know that I don’t feel excited anymore when someone mentions New York City to me. I’m wondering if I need a change of scenery, or if I should just try to find optimism shades to put on my eyes. Maybe springlike weather just needs to get here as soon as possible.

INTERVIEW

Filed under: Personal, Thoughts — sngk @ 3:06 pm

So I had an interview yesterday.  It went well, or at least from my perspective, it was pretty good overall.  I have been thinking a lot about it, and in the process I’ve ended up with a headache.  Or maybe that was because I exhausted myself yesterday, physically and mentally.

RETURN FROM EXILE

Filed under: Personal, Randomness — sngk @ 12:00 am

I am back (I think) from my unannounced impromptu hiatus (because my life is boring and not very worthy of the blog name right now).

[Cue budget crisis.]

USHERING IN THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY

Filed under: Art, Humor, Observations, Politics, Thoughts — sngk @ 3:44 pm

The press, especially the 24 hour cable news channels, are having a field day covering every minute aspect of the inauguration of President-Elect Obama.  While I am happy to look forward to watching his administration seize upon the opportunities present amidst the many crises plaguing our nation, the saturation of coverage and news can leave one a bit weary.  Nevertheless, I thought I’d share two pictures in lieu of the wave of celebratory spirit.

This second photo is priceless.

THE YEAR OF THE OX

Filed under: Observations, Randomness, Thoughts — sngk @ 12:58 am

According to the Chinese zodiac calender, in less than two weeks the year of the Rat will say goodbye and the year of the Ox will make a grand entrance.  Well, as grand as an entrance as possible amidst the circumstances of a major economic downturn and troubles across the continents.  According to my dad and some random websites (that I searched for to see if my dad was correct), the year of the Ox is supposed to be one of hardships and a slew of difficulties, which can only be overcome through hard work and fastidiousness.  Apparently, my parents think that this year’s ox is particularly mean, because of all the deaths that have happened since the start of the new year.  I have to admit, there have been a lot of random deaths.  The conflict in Gaza, Iraq, Afghanistan, ferries sinking in Indonesia, murders and deaths in my local metro area… the numbers keep piling up.  Luckily, everyone from today’s random plane crash in the Hudson River survived; it’s an incident that’s so crazy it could’ve have been made up.  The apparent cause of engine failure on the port and starboard side: Geese.  Insane.  Utterly insane.  I hope this year doesn’t end up like the familiar picture below.

[I tried to ford the river and my (f*cking) oxen died.]

CORPORATE CONNECTIONS

Filed under: Randomness — sngk @ 5:42 pm

Someone created a really cool image of how interconnected corporations are in the present day.  I took a snapshot below, but you can view the whole thing here.

NATURALLY JAPANESE

Naturally, it’s also a game store called the “flatflat store” in the Harajuku district of Tokyo.  I love the design because it reminds me of the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan.  I wish building interiors were this creative.

Apologies for the alliteration.  Dammit I did it again, didn’t I?
