LAURYN DOWNHILL

Filed under: Hip Hop, Music, Randomness, Updates — sngk @

Well, I guess I’ve lost respect for Lauryn Hill after reading this magazine article.  Granted, it may be biased (since the interviewee is Wyclef), but somehow I doubt he’s the kind of deceptive person.  She’s a diva.

On a side note, apologies for the lack of updates so far.  I’ve been busy/lazy to upload pictures and write creative entries (blame the “summer” effect), but I’ll list the short updates below:

  •  Work (notice to self: must take photo of cubicle)
  • Yankee Game (They won!)

Every other event has no photographic evidence, so I won’t really write entries about them.  Overall, this summer so far has been rather pleasant, light and relaxing (for the most part).  I’d compare it to a warm gentle breeze on a sunny day [don't ask].  Oh — I’ve become a movie theater junkie too, but it’s only temporary.

SHADY RICH PEOPLE & FOOTBALL CLUBS: A TREND

Filed under: Observations, Politics, Thoughts — sngk @

While I was perusing through the BBC News website (a person OCD-like habit), I learned of the existence of a Mr. Arcadi Gaydamak, a Russian tycoon forming a political party to oppose the existing Kadima government in Israel.  I had no interest in this article until I read that he owns a football club - and then it hit me.  Why do rich people with shady histories buy and own football clubs?  Mr. Gaydamak, according to the BBC, “has been questioned by Israeli police investigating allegations of financial irregularities and is the subject of two French arrest warrants in connection with an arms-dealing case in Angola. The warrants have forced him to travel on an Angolan diplomatic passport.”  This report comes on the heels of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s purchase of the British Manchester City football club, despite being dogged with allegations of corruption, financial irregularities, abuse of power, etc.  I’m sure if Roman Abramovich (the Russian oil tycoon) wasn’t so cozy to the Kremlin, he’d be in exile traveling the globe on a non-Russian passport and still would be head of Chelsea F.C.  Are these football obsessed tycoons bringing their childhood dreams to life or just greedy shopaholics?

TRANSFORMERS NEED COVERAGE

With the recent release of Transformers the movie, the ever clever McSweeney’s website has joined -ROBOTS IN DISGUISE- fever by providing a hilarious mock letter on the one thing that can bring down the lovable Autobots: Car Insurance.

Optimus Prime has nothing on GEICO.
