THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF FREEDOM

Apologies to Milan Kundera.

I have nothing significant to say at the moment, but I felt I was neglecting this poor newborn blog. I had pangs of guilt (guilt pangs?). Anyway, this post-exam period has left me so free I honestly don’t know what to do with all my time. So I’ve turned back to leisure reading, which brings me back to Milan Kundera.

If you haven’t heard of him before, he’s written a book called The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Everyone keeps raving about this book (the bookstore cashier even said I made a good choice), and so I decided to figure out whether this was all hype or worthy of acclaim. I’m currently about midway through, and it definitely does not read like any novel I’ve previously read, but I want to finish the book before making any comments. I’ll just say, at least for now, that I’m intrigued by it.

On another note, I’ve been meaning to post up more photos for this blog, but I’ve been thwarted by the notorious London weather and a lack of photo-worthy events. (I’ll do a full coverage Eurotrip post when I return to the States.)

Other random things/thoughts:

• I am currently in some kind of “oldies” phase/funk with music.
• The fire alarms need to stop. NOW.
• The weather needs to stop playing games with me.
• Class of 2007 graduated today.
• I am officially a senior.
• That scares me.

Ah!

OBSERVATION OF THE DAY

Europe is really serious about not working too hard.  Case in point - today the fire alarm just went off and three firefighters eventually arrived (with very little gear, I might add) and proceeded to calmly stroll through the courtyard towards the dorm building that may have or have not been flaming inside.

I just realized how wrong this may sound to some people.

FINALS, FINALS AND MORE FINALS

The thing about finals period abroad is that well, I’m abroad. Every waking moment (on sunny days, natch) I just want to throw my books out the window, put a cheesy smile on my face, shout “YAY!” and run outside in the manner of a 5 year old child. Is that so wrong? Unfortunately, I’m stuck here with two choices: 1) study and be slowly consumed by information and piles of notes or 2) procrastinate my ass off and get screwed come Wednesday.

I think I’ll go eat.

Er, actually…there’s no need. I just needed to open this entry somehow. I’m hoping to eventually relocate here and rid myself of that dreaded xanga. Consider this a fresh start.
